They fit Paul’s description in I Timothy 4:2 where he says, “having their conscience seared with a hot iron.” The allusion is to the scar made with branding an animal. The scar is without feeling, as if dead, made so by the hot branding iron. This is a good picture of most of our society today. Hardly anything is wrong anymore. Feelings of remorse and guilt are shrugged off as a hang-over from a former generation. Worst of all is the fact that these seared consciences belong to many who claim to be followers of Jesus Christ.
Is Abortion Killing?
by Randall Walton

In response to J. Grant Swank’s article in the August 1994 Testimony of Truth concerning the proper attitude toward abortion clinics, a woman objected to the use of the word “killing” synonymously with abortion. Abortion and killing, she claims, are two different kinds of activities. Furthermore, she protested, a woman has a right to do whatever she wants with her own body. So there! There are those of us who see this whole abortion mess in a totally different light. The answer lies in the matter of, “When does life begin?” Does life start at conception, at the end of the second trimester, or at birth? Our correspondent opts for “At birth.” Her contention is that at creation, God “formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” (Gen. 2:7) To this, we wholeheartedly agree. However, we are forced to admit that Adam had never been an embryo, nor a fetus, nor was he carried in a womb and given birth. God created him in His own image. All he needed was a good breath of fresh, divine air, and he was alive!

The Bible emphatically states, “The life is in the blood.” (Lev. 17:11,14) To this premise we hold, no matter how many pro-abortionists cry otherwise. The reason they cry is that they know that an embryo has its own blood system shortly after conception, and this fact totally upsets their justification for destroying a fetus. How soon after conception an embryo has its own blood supply is difficult to determine, but there seems to be no doubt that by the time a woman knows she is pregnant, a new life has developed within her body. Does she have a moral right to destroy that new life? Does she really? An intricately designed being is growing deep within the cavernous warmth of her womb. Is she justified before God to terminate that growth which has its own blood system (life) and lacks only sufficient time to be fully developed? Certainly a woman has a right to do with her own body whatever she pleases, but the fetus is not her own body. She has no Biblical or moral right to take the life of an unborn child, even if a corrupt and immoral justice system approves. This is not to say that a woman who has resorted to abortion cannot find forgiveness with God. She can, provided she truly repents.

Our court system, as a whole, which has attempted to play God by its amoral decision to allow this wholesale destruction of human life, as well as the “doctors” who gladly perform these inhumane acts, will find no justification for themselves when they stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Yes, abortion is killing, outright, deliberate, wanton and sickening killing. The act of staunching the blood from flowing through the arteries and veins of an embryo or a fetus is to stop life. The expulsion. or suction of the remains from the uterus is very simple, but first the blood (life) must be stopped. If that isn’t killing, then we would like to know the proper definition of the word. It is about time this generation wakes up to the awful depravity to which it has fallen. We understand from the Scriptures that mankind will be totally vile and unrepenting in the last days, but many of these who espouse abortion are professing believers!

If you have any doubts about our living in the last days, just open your eyes to the world around you. Callousness to the workings and results of sin is everywhere. People look upon brutal murders and vicious violence without blinking an eyelid. Children are fed a never-ending diet of sex, abuse, murder, torture, rape, drug addiction and the ravages of war via television, which spews forth its filth around the clock. The killings roll on. The abortion mills continue their greedy work of feeding their insatiable appetites for more innocent victims -- for a price, of course. We, the taxpayers, are forced to pay these merchants of mayhem to do the very things that our consciences tell us is criminal in the eyes of God. Shame, shame, shame on a nation who will unashamedly destroy the unborn on such a scale as to make one’s head swim. Surely God and the angels of heaven must behold man’s doings with a look of disbelief! How long can this nation flaunt its wicked and proud self before the world and say, “In God We Trust”? What a contradiction!

Is abortion killing? What a silly question!
